If you are searching for filings associated with a decision, enter the case citation in the red search box (e.g., 888 F. Supp. 2d 976). From the document view of the opinion, look for the "Filings" tab. These may include both filings that relate directly to the decision (e.g., the merits briefs about the issue decided in the opinion) and other documents filed in the case (e.g., filings regarding a motion previously made in the same case but not at issue in the decision you are viewing).
To make sure you find any documents that Lexis+ has obtained that were filed in the courts above or below the court that issued the initial decision you started from, run a Shepard's report for direct prior and subsequent history cases and check the Filings tab for each such opinion.
To search for filings in a pending case (e.g., to look for briefs on a motion that has not yet been decided), from the home page click on "Briefs, Pleadings and Motions", under the "Content Type" tab. Enter your search request in the red search box or click on "Advanced Search" to open a template of advanced searching options. Try using party names or other keywords for your search. Narrow your search results by using any of the filters in the left sidebar.
View docket sheets only – While docket sheets are available in CourtLink (accessible via Lexis+), under Berkeley Law’s academic subscription you cannot access the feature that allows you to update the docket. If you need the most current information about a case you may need to check elsewhere, such as Bloomberg Law, Westlaw, or PACER. To find docket sheets, from the home page click on "Dockets (CourtLink)", under the "Content" tab. If desired, apply jurisdictional or other limits. Enter your search request in the red search box or click on "Advanced Search" to open a template of advanced searching options. Try using party names or other keywords for your search. CourtLink may not search efficiently by docket number. Narrow your search results by using any of the filters in the left sidebar.
View selected documents – CourtLink may cover only a selection of the documents that may be available elsewhere, such as on Bloomberg Law, Westlaw, or PACER.
