Study Aids: Audio & Video ... and print

Electronic Study Aids

Platforms with streaming/podcast audio or video content

  • Aspen Learning Library: Two collections, In Other Words (audio-only or with video slides) and Aspen Aloud (audio). Below the search bar, click the "Videos" or "Audio" tab for lists of topics (on those tabs you can also select a topic under the "Filter by" pulldown menu).
  • CALI: Podcast lectures available for many topics; the easiest way to find offerings is under "Lessons," select "Subject Outline" and choose your course/subject to see if there are purple "Podcast" icons associated with specific topics in the outline.
  • West Academic Study Aids: New Cold Call Companion series includes animated case briefs for selected cases used in each 1L course topic (plus constitutional law)—look for the series title under the "Series" pulldown menu.. Two audio lecture series by experts, covering a range of legal topics, plus a new series of audio discussions featuring faculty answering FAQs from office hours—look for Sum & Substance or Law School Legends lecture series, or the Office Hours series, under the "Series" pulldown menu.

Print materials

Study aids (overviews and in depth) in print

For some tasks (especially a quick overview, or extended research), print may be your preferred format. We have some of the study aid materials covered in this guide in print as well as online.

  • Generally, current/updated editions are in the Reserve Collection, available for 4-hour, in-library use.
  • Older editions of the Nutshell series are in the Stacks and can be checked out to current Berkeley Law students/staff/faculty or current UC Berkeley faculty and graduate students.
  • Several treatises are listed in this guide (or in the Law Library Catalog) with a "Stacks" location; these are available for use in the library but generally are not available for loan/check-out; some may not be as up-to-date as the online versions, so be sure to check for a "superseded" label.
