Faculty Support Services: Book/Article/Research Requests

This guide provides faculty, FSU staff, and administrators with resources and information about the law library's faculty services.

Get a book

If a professor wants a book, there's no need to figure out which library might have it. Simply fill out the Get a Book request form (also available on the Faculty Resources page) and indicate which professor you're making the request for. We will figure out where we can find the book. If it's in the Law Library's collection, we will deliver it to the professor's faculty mailbox if they have one. If they don't, we'll hold it in the Law Library for them to pick up. If the book is not in the Law Library's collection, we'll figure out where we can get it, and send specific instructions to the professor about how to request it. How long it will take to get a book varies widely depending on which library it's in. If you have a document with a list of books, you can upload the document to the Get a Book request form.

Returns

It is very, very important that publications borrowed from outside libraries, including Berkeley campus libraries, be returned on time. For books borrowed from the main University library system, there are no exceptions to scheduled fines or privilege holds for faculty members. Please be aware that placing the books in the campus mail bins will not result in them being recorded as returned; if you are approaching a due date, please bring the book directly to the Law Library circulation desk for faster processing.

Get an article or other document

If a professor wants an article or other document, use the Get an Article request form (also available on the Faculty Resources page), and indicate which professor you're making the request for. We will send an electronic copy unless you indicate a preference for a paper copy. Paper copies will be delivered to the professor's faculty mailbox. If you have a document with a list of articles, you can upload the document to the Get an Article request form.

Make a research request

If a professor cannot specify the item they're looking for, e.g., they want citations to all of the recently-published federal opinions in a given subject area, reference librarians can help. Fill out the Make a research request form and indicate which professor is looking for the research.
